BIO

Stephen Wussow has practiced in environmental and personal injury law since 2013. He has represented clients in cases involving water contamination, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas NORM, air pollution, occupational exposure, and personal injury, with an emphasis on mass torts. He litigates cases in the state and federal courts across the county, primarily in Louisiana and West Virginia.

Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Stephen spent his youth in Papua New Guinea and North Carolina, and went on to study social science at Appalachian State University. After college Stephen worked as a journalist covering environmental issues in Appalachia. He got his start in environmental law after writing an article on the well water contamination of the rural community of Rawl, West Virginia, whose water had been poisoned by the injected wastes of a nearby coal processing plant. Angered at what he saw, Stephen convinced the community’s attorney to take him on as a research analyst and community liaison, and eventually moved up to office manager.

Four years of hard-fought litigation later, Stephen moved to New Orleans to attend law school at Loyola, where he served as research assistant on BP litigation for Prof. Rob Verchick, Gauthier-St. Martin Eminent Scholar & Chair in Environmental Law. Stephen also served as Co-President of the Loyola Environmental Law Society.

Recently, Stephen was part of the Good class action litigation team that achieved a $151 million settlement for the people of Charleston, WV, whose water supply was tainted and economy disrupted during the Elk River Spill of 2014. He also recently spearheaded air pollution litigation against an Exxon refinery in Louisiana and represented a cleanup worker gravely injured during the response efforts to the BP Deepwater Horizon Spill. He is currently a  member of the Opioid Litigation Team, a nationwide group of attorney taking on Big Pharma on behalf of babies born addicted to opioids and others harmed by the Opioid Crisis.

In his free time, Stephen enjoys playing music, travel, and exploring the outdoors.
